The prohibition against gender cross-dressing applied not only to items of clothing, but to any article typically worn by either a man or a woman. It referred to jewellery, ornaments or weapons. In some Middle Eastern countries, it is still customary for men to wear daggers attached to their belts as a fashion accessory and for women to wear distinctive headgear.
